ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has said that India has violated all basic rights of religious minorities and cannot claim to be called champion of the rights of minorities.
In a briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that India had been constantly violating the rights of minorities. Incidents against minorities have regularly been taking place with the connivance of government elements.
Khan said that hatred and violence against minorities are being promoted in India, snd there is evidence of state repression of minorities in the country.
The Citizenship Amendment Act in India is discriminatory against minorities, he said, adding that the Indian government should focus on its own minorities instead of criticizing others.
The spokesperson said that the demolition of the Babri Masjid by Hindu zealots in India and the construction of a temple in its place is a violation of the rights of minorities. Attacks on mosques and shrines have become normal in India. He said New Delhi should ensure the protection of all minorities, including Muslims.
The spokesperson said that state institutions in Pakistan always ensure the protection of minorities. He said minorities in Pakistan enjoyed equal rights and the government was taking steps to help build and preserve the places of worship of the minorities.
