TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi has claimed that progress was made in recent negotiations held in Switzerland, including the easing of sanctions and the release of some frozen Iranian assets.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Araghchi said that the talks resulted in an agreement to lift restrictions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical exports, effectively ending what he described as a blockade on the country.
He added that some of Iran’s frozen financial assets had been released, while a broader reconstruction and development plan for the country had also been initiated.
Referring to the joint statement issued after the talks, the Iranian foreign minister credited mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar for achieving what he termed significant progress, particularly in relation to efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Lebanon.
Araghchi noted that the establishment of a Lebanon de-confliction cell would serve as the first real test of the agreement, indicating its importance in maintaining ceasefire arrangements and reducing tensions in the region.
The negotiations, held in Switzerland, are part of ongoing diplomatic efforts involving multiple stakeholders to address regional conflicts, Iran’s nuclear program, and economic restrictions imposed on the country.
