WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has said that a potential agreement with Iran could be signed by the end of the week or early next week.

In remarks to a U.S. news outlet, Trump described recent developments as positive, pointing to a statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as encouraging. He also claimed that Iran had privately apologized for previously circulating incorrect information.

According to reports, the agreement has reportedly received high-level approval within Iran, although final endorsement from the country’s top leadership is still pending.

Trump had earlier criticized Iranian media for publishing alleged details of the agreement, calling them inaccurate and unrelated to the actual terms under negotiation.

The U.S. president also shared Araghchi’s statement on social media, in which the Iranian minister suggested that both sides had reached an unprecedented level of understanding on a memorandum of reconciliation.
