Islamabad, Pindi still blocked, mobile phone services suspended
Residents remain confined to their streets, shortage of food items feared as supply stopped.
ISLAMABAD: All roads in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are still blocked for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday in the wake of the the protest call given by the PTI.
Mobile phone services are also suspended creating hardships for the residents of the twin cities.
According to a survey, thousands of shipping containers have been put on different roads both in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The main highways including Islamabad Expressway, Kashmir Highway, Murree Road and Peshawar Road are blocked at different points.
Links roads to these main arteries are also blocked in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and residents are confined to their streets for four days.
The two cities are now also running out of basic food items especially vegetables and fruits as supply from different parts of the country has been suspended. Shopkeepers and vendors have increased the prices on their own citing shortage of supply.
The suspension of mobile phone services has added to the hardship of the residents while people working online with different companies located outside the country ate also unable to earn their livelihood.
The local traders said that they were facing losses of billions of rupees due to closures of markets while those in periphery were without business as customers could not visit them.
People suffering from different ailments especially dengue virus were also unable to visit hospitals.
The local people criticized both the government and the PTI for their unending cat and mouse play that was leaving a very heavy toll on the public life.
