ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has called for a reduction in fuel prices and the abolition of the petroleum levy, describing the tax as an unjust financial burden on the public.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief referred to the petroleum levy as an “extortion tax” and accused the government of placing an unfair burden on citizens.
He also announced that a nationwide protest scheduled for August 7 would mark “a new chapter of resistance” in Pakistan. Hafiz Naeem urged students, young people, motorcycle riders, delivery workers, courier staff, laborers, farmers, and the wider public to take to the streets with their motorcycles and vehicles.
He said the demonstration would remain peaceful and called on citizens to use democratic protest to demand their rights.
