TEHRAN: Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified following a series of reported military strikes and counterstrikes claimed by both sides.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that it conducted precision strikes on Iranian radar and drone-related installations in the cities of Gurek and Qeshm, saying the action was in response to Iran’s aggressive activities, including the targeting of an MQ-1 drone in international waters.
CENTCOM further claimed that its forces destroyed an Iranian air defense system, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones, which it described as a threat to regional maritime security. In parallel developments, Kuwait’s military reported that its air defense systems were actively engaging incoming missiles and drones amid heightened regional alert conditions.
On the other side, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had successfully targeted an airbase allegedly used to launch an attack on a communications tower in Sirik, Hormozgan province.
Iranian media reports further stated that IRGC aerospace forces carried out retaliatory strikes on the base involved, claiming destruction of key targets shortly after the initial incident.
