PESHAWAR: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of JUI, has rejected the Child Marriage Act that has come into force in Islamabad capital territory, terming it against the Quran and Sunnah.
He said an age limit for marriage has not been set in the religion. Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, the JUI chief said that no law can be made against the Quran and Sunnah in Pakistan. He said that age was not a prerequisite for marriage in the light of Quran and Sunnah, and when a boy and girl reach puberty, they should be married.
Children under the age of 18 are being prohibited from marriage and in this situation we are approaching the public, there will be rallies in different provinces. We are going to hold a conference in Hazara Division on June 29.
He said the PPP wants to show its secular face, but why is the PML-N doing this? Roads are being opened for adultery and marriage is being made difficult. Pakistan that was built in the name of Islam, now its Islamic identity is being eroded.
In response to a question, Maulana Rehman said the PPP’s protest was not against corruption but on why its record was broken. He claimed that until his government was formed in KP, corruption would continue thriving.
He demanded that there should be an investigation at the judicial level into the corruption by PTI in KP. Out of Rs40 billion financial scam in Kohistan, Rs20 billion have been recovered, he said.
