MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Home Secretary has said that a security operation has become necessary to restore peace and normalcy following continued unrest in parts of the region.
Addressing a joint press conference with the Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Home Secretary alleged that members of the banned Awami Action Committee had been involved in violent activities, including the use of automatic weapons and explosive materials, disrupting public life for several weeks.
He claimed that security forces launched an operation after armed groups allegedly opened fire during an incident in Rawalakot. According to the official, one security personnel was killed and another injured in the exchange, while one suspected militant was also reported dead.
The Home Secretary said law enforcement agencies, supported by Rangers, were conducting clearance operations to reopen key highways and restore the movement of people and essential supplies. He added that normal life had resumed in most parts of AJK, with educational institutions and businesses operating as usual.
The education secretary expressed concern that students could be used as “human shields” during protests and urged educational institutions and parents to ensure children remain away from demonstrations. Schools were directed to closely monitor students and discourage their participation in protest activities.
Officials reiterated that the government would not allow any group to disrupt public life or endanger citizens and said the operation would continue until law and order is fully restored.
