ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) President Zou Jiyai and emphasized Pakistan’s strong commitment to its partnership with AIIB as one of the bank’s founding members.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif lauded AIIB’s continued support for Pakistan’s social and economic development and highlighted the government’s priorities for sustainable and inclusive growth.
He identified key areas for future collaboration with AIIB, including railways, agriculture and agri-industry, regional connectivity, renewable and local energy resources, as well as youth engagement in information technology and artificial intelligence.
The Prime Minister also discussed ongoing policy reforms aimed at achieving economic stability and long-term development, alongside measures to promote an investment-friendly environment.
He stressed that partnerships with leading multilateral financial institutions like AIIB are vital for realizing these objectives. He expressed hope that the delegation’s visit would further strengthen the ties between Pakistan and AIIB.
President Zou Jiyai expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Pakistan for the warm reception and acknowledged Pakistan’s significant role in the establishment of AIIB.
She particularly recognized the support provided by Pakistan’s leadership during the bank’s formative phase and commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s strong commitment to the country’s development and prosperity.
Highlighting the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, President Zou emphasized AIIB’s interest in providing structured support in Pakistan’s strategic sectors, including the development of railways, highways, regional and cross-border connectivity, information technology and artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and urban and rural development. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration to promote sustainable development, regional integration, and economic growth.
