ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed hope that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will become permanent, stating that Pakistan is actively working toward that goal.

Speaking at an international conference in Islamabad, Dar said Pakistan played a key role in facilitating dialogue between the two countries, bringing them to the negotiating table after decades.

He noted that previous negotiations were indirect, often conducted through intermediaries such as Oman. However, Pakistan helped enable direct talks, with both sides agreeing to engage in face-to-face discussions.

Dar said that Pakistan participated in the negotiations at the request of both parties. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assigned him, along with senior military and national security officials, to lead the diplomatic effort.

According to Dar, intensive negotiations lasting over 20 hours contributed to reducing hostilities, which had previously involved frequent attacks and significant casualties.

He emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to ensuring that the temporary ceasefire evolves into a lasting peace arrangement. He also highlighted the importance of unity among Muslim countries in addressing regional challenges.

Dar reiterated that issues such as Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir remain key priorities for Pakistan, stressing the need for peaceful resolutions in accordance with international frameworks.

He added that Pakistan continues to support regional stability and will maintain its diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
