ISLAMABAD: The government has rejected claims circulating in Afghan media that Afghan Taliban launched drone attacks targeting military installations in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the reports are false and baseless. Officials stated that two rudimentary drones operated by a terrorist group allegedly supported by the Afghan Taliban were intercepted by Pakistan’s security forces using electronic countermeasures.
The ministry clarified that no military or critical infrastructure was damaged in the incident. However, minor damage occurred when debris from the intercepted drones fell to the ground.
In an official statement released by the ministry’s fact-checking department, authorities said the Afghan Taliban’s claims lack any credible evidence. The statement added that the situation once again highlights concerns that the Taliban government is allowing terrorist organizations to operate under its protection.
Officials also noted that social media accounts linked to the Taliban’s so-called Ministry of Defense have previously spread misinformation and propaganda.
Similar claims in the past, including allegations that Pakistani Air Force aircraft had been shot down and pilots captured, were later quietly deleted after being proven false.
The government urged the public to verify information from reliable sources before believing or sharing unconfirmed reports on social media.
Earlier, reports of a loud explosion in Islamabad and Rawalpindi briefly caused concern, and flight operations were temporarily suspended, but authorities confirmed that the situation was under control.
