UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has strongly rejected what it calls India’s attempt to use water as a political or strategic weapon, declaring such actions completely unacceptable.

Speaking during a debate on maintaining global peace and security at the United Nations Security Council, Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan remains firmly committed to the United Nations Charter, international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

He emphasized that the UN has consistently recognized the principles of equality among nations and the right to self-determination, and stressed that unresolved conflicts must be addressed through dialogue rather than coercion or unilateral measures.

Referring to regional tensions, he noted that Pakistan has repeatedly advocated for diplomacy and negotiations to reduce escalation, particularly in sensitive regions such as the Middle East, where instability has also created wider economic and humanitarian challenges.

On the long-standing Kashmir dispute, he reiterated that it remains unresolved for over eight decades and urged the international community to ensure respect for international agreements and legal frameworks. He maintained that any unilateral suspension or alteration of treaties, including water-sharing arrangements, is not acceptable.

Dar also expressed gratitude to friendly countries for supporting Pakistan’s efforts toward peace and dialogue, stating that sustainable global stability can only be achieved through cooperation, restraint, and adherence to international norms.
