Pakistan Supports Iran’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity: Zardari

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari today reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence, emphasizing the importance Islamabad places on its bilateral ties with Tehran.

The president was talking to Pakistan’s newly designated ambassador to Iran, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to an official statement, President Zardari instructed the envoy to prioritize the promotion of trade and people-to-people contacts between the two neighboring countries.

He also stressed the need to facilitate Iranian pilgrims visiting Pakistan and Pakistani pilgrims traveling to Iran, calling for effective measures to improve their experience.

The president highlighted the importance of removing barriers hindering bilateral trade and urged efforts to enhance legal border trade and connectivity.

President Zardari further directed the ambassador to focus on the welfare of Pakistani students, businesspersons, and the Pakistani community residing in Iran. He also encouraged strengthening engagement with Iranian civil society and students to deepen mutual understanding.

Congratulating Siddiqui on his appointment, the president expressed confidence in his professional capabilities and hoped he would play a key role in further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations.
