DUSHANBE: Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to increase bilateral trade to $200 million, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was reached during the Pakistan–Tajik Joint Commission’s eighth two-day meeting held in Dushanbe.
Both sides finalized a three-year roadmap aimed at enhancing trade, investment, and energy cooperation between Islamabad and Dushanbe. They also agreed to further strengthen collaboration under a preferential trade agreement framework.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to the early completion of the CASA-1000 power transmission project, a key regional energy initiative.
Pakistan and Tajikistan also identified opportunities for Pakistani investment in Tajikistan’s oil and gas sector. Cooperation in information technology, pharmaceuticals, and industrial development was also agreed upon.
In the agriculture sector, both sides discussed joint projects and trials of modern crops. Pakistan will also provide training to Tajik experts in digital marketing and freelancing.
The meeting further emphasized collaboration in healthcare, including pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and joint ventures, along with strengthening ties in education, science, and research.
Both countries also discussed promoting tourism across the Pamir, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush regions, and agreed to expand cooperation in culture, sports, and youth development.
