UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan on Monday called for an early resumption of dialogue to end the Ukraine conflict, urging all parties to pursue a lasting peace through diplomacy.

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on Ukraine, Usman Jadoon warned that the conflict continues to cause widespread destruction and humanitarian suffering.

He said the war has entered its fifth year and continues to devastate civilian lives and livelihoods. He also expressed concern over recent escalations in attacks, saying they further worsen the humanitarian crisis.

The Pakistani envoy said continued hostilities undermine trust and weaken efforts aimed at achieving peace through negotiations.

Civilians Continue to Suffer

Ambassador Jadoon stressed that civilians remain the worst affected by the fighting. He reiterated Pakistan’s position that all parties must protect civilians, humanitarian workers, and civilian infrastructure.

He said international humanitarian law obligates all sides to ensure civilian protection under all circumstances. He added that violations only deepen the crisis and prolong instability.

The envoy also welcomed recent temporary ceasefire announcements, including the latest truce efforts this month. He said such measures could help build confidence between both sides.

Pakistan further praised prisoner exchanges and the return of deceased servicemen’s remains. According to Islamabad, these humanitarian steps can support broader peace efforts.

Pakistan Supports Diplomatic Resolution

Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding position, Ambassador Jadoon said dialogue remains the only viable path to lasting peace in Ukraine.

He noted growing international support for resolving the conflict through peaceful means. He also expressed hope that both sides would resume talks soon with facilitation from the United States.

The Pakistani diplomat urged both parties to demonstrate political will and engage constructively toward a mutually acceptable settlement.

He said any future agreement must respect legitimate security concerns and remain consistent with the UN Charter and international law.

Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Jadoon said Pakistan would continue supporting all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and durable peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
