NEW YORK: Members of the Pakistani-American community gathered in New York on Friday for an interactive session with Bank of Punjab President and author Zafar Masud, who shared insights from his professional journey and personal experiences.
Prominent businessman and community leader Dr Abid Sheikh hosted the event at his residence. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Consul General in New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai, business leaders, professionals, and community members attended the gathering.

Welcoming the guests, Dr Sheikh highlighted Mr Masud’s distinguished career in Pakistan’s banking sector. He also praised Mr Masud’s acclaimed book Seat 1C for its reflections on resilience, leadership, gratitude, and purpose.
Dr Sheikh said the book offers lessons that extend beyond the tragic PIA Flight 8303 crash. He noted that Mr Masud emerged as one of only two survivors of the 2020 disaster.
Leaders Laud Contributions to Banking Sector
Addressing the audience, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai commended Mr Masud’s contributions to Pakistan’s financial sector.

They praised his ability to transform a deeply personal tragedy into a source of inspiration. Moreover, they said his story continues to motivate people across different walks of life.
The two diplomats also acknowledged the Pakistani-American community’s role in strengthening Pakistan-United States relations. They said the diaspora continues to promote Pakistan’s positive image abroad.
Zafar Masud Shares Lessons on Resilience
Speaking at the session, Mr Masud discussed key themes from Seat 1C and reflected on his professional experiences.
He emphasised resilience during adversity and underscored the importance of purposeful leadership. Furthermore, he highlighted the lessons that often emerge from life’s most challenging moments.

Participants actively engaged with Mr Masud during an extensive question-and-answer session. The event concluded with informal interactions between Mr Masud and members of the community.
The gathering provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue while reinforcing ties between Pakistani-American professionals and Pakistan’s leadership.
