PM Emphasizes IT Sector Growth and Digital Expansion

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that the development of the IT sector and boosting IT-related exports remain key priorities for the government.

While chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted the vast potential of the country’s youth in the IT field and stressed the need to fully harness their skills.

He also directed authorities to accelerate the establishment of ‘Asaan Khidmat Marakaz’ in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, urging provincial governments to collaborate in extending similar services across other regions.

The meeting reviewed recent progress in digital connectivity, noting that household internet connections nationwide have surged from 1.9 million in 2024 to 5.10 million this year. Officials also projected that Pakistan’s IT exports could reach $4.5–4.6 billion in the current fiscal year.

Additionally, it was reported that fiber-optic connectivity has been provided to government schools and health facilities in Islamabad, while the rollout of free public internet hotspots in the capital is nearing completion.
