LAHORE: The government of Punjab has taken more steps to minimise the effect of smog that has paralyzed life in most of the cities in the province.
In a latest move, the provincial government issued a notification banning all outdoor activities in major cities of the province.
All markets, shopping malls will be closed at 8pm in Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, says a notification issued by the Punjab government. However, petrol pumps, medical stores will be exempted from the restriction.
Besides, there will also be a ban on all outdoor functions and sports festivals till further notice. However, religious congregations will remain exempted.
Anyone violating the ban would face action under Punjab Environment Protection Act.
The government has also ordered action against smoke emitting vehicles and asked citizen to call telephone number 15 in case they notice any such vehicle.
Moreover, the government has ordered the Safe City Authority to monitor smoke emitting vehicles and launch action against their owners.
