LAHORE: The Punjab cabinet has approved the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026–27, with a total outlay of Rs5.85 trillion, during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman briefed the cabinet on the key features of the budget, including a proposed development allocation of Rs752 billion aimed at boosting infrastructure and public welfare projects across the province.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to increase salaries and pensions of government employees by 7 percent, providing relief amid ongoing economic challenges.
The meeting was attended by senior provincial ministers, including Marriyum Aurangzeb, as well as top officials such as the chief secretary, chairman of the Planning and Development Board, and the finance secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister expressed gratitude for presenting her third budget and reiterated the government’s commitment to public welfare. She noted that despite a reduced share under the National Finance Commission (NFC), the provincial government remains determined to provide maximum relief to citizens through its own resources.
Maryam Nawaz said the government would continue its efforts to ensure development and prosperity in Punjab, emphasizing that there would be no compromise on initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people.
