Renowned Cartoonist ‘Maxim’ Passes Away

LAHORE: Renowned Pakistani cartoonist, academic and Islamic architecture expert Professor Dr Shaukat Mahmood, widely known by his pen name “Maxim”, has passed away.

Dr Mahmood, a former Dean at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, was recognized for his contributions to both cartoon art and the study of Islamic architecture.

Expressing grief over his passing, UET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Munir described Dr Mahmood’s death as a significant loss for Pakistan’s academic, research and artistic communities.

He said the late professor had rendered outstanding services in the fields of Islamic architecture and cartoon art, adding that his work brought recognition to both UET and Pakistan at the international level.

Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and members of the academic and artistic communities, who remembered Dr Mahmood for his lifelong contributions to education, research and creative expression.
