ISLAMABAD: Talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan ended in a deadlock on Monday night as PTI marchers entered the limits of Islamabad.
According to media reports, the government team led by the Interior Minister requested the PTI negotiators including KP government spokesman Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif not to hold the protest at D Chowk as a delegation from Belarus led by its President was in Islamabad.
They were offered another venue at the Parade Ground near Faizabad. However, the PTI team rejected the request and warned that if the government did not release PTI founder and jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the marchers would reach D Chowk and would stage a sit-in there till acceptance of their demands.
Thus the talks ended in a failure to reach any conclusion. According to the reports, the interior minister rushed back to the Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to inform him about the situation and get further instructions.
However, later Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned that any protester reaching D Chowk will be arrested.
Meanwhile, the marchers from Khyber Pakthunkhwa led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and accompanied by Bushra Bibi, wife of Imran Khan, have entered the jurisdiction of Islamabad on Monday night.
As the situation in Islamabad remained tense with more roads blocked, the district administration of Islamabad as well as Rawalpindi announced to extend the closure of educational institutions to Tuesday.
