Ruling parties, JUI agree on judicial reform package

LAHORE: Heads of ruling political parties and JUI chief at a huddle here agreed on the judicial reform package the government plans to introduce which includes setting up of a constitutional court.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI chief Molana Fazlur Rehman rushed to the Jati Umra mansion of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif soon after the conclusion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Islamabad even though most of the delegates were in Islamabad on Wednesday evening.

During their meeting at dinner hosted by Nawaz Sharif, the ruling parties succeeded in winning over the Molana for the passage of the bill related to the judiciary reform package.

After the meeting, the JUI chief told media that there had been a consensus on the judicial reform package and expressed the hope that the parties would also agree in other part of the constitutional package. He made it clear that the JUI would not accept the original draft package.

He said that if the 26th constitutional amendment was made with the consensus of all political parties it would be in the interest of all the parties as well as the country.

It may be mentioned here that the JUI and the PPP have already come up with their own draft constitutional amendments and presented it to the government.

Bilawal Bhutto on the occasion said that the major political parties were heading towards a consensus on the constitutional package.
