Sanam Javed’s appeals against papers’ rejection dismissed

PTI social activist had filed nominations for two National Assembly and one Punjab Assembly seats.

LAHORE: An election tribunal of Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected appeals filed by PTI social activist Sanam Javed against the rejection of her nomination papers.

The jailed PTI activist had filed nominations for two National Assembly – NA 20 and NA 21 – and one Punjab Assembly (PP 150) seats.

The counsel for Sanam had challenged the rejection of her papers by the returning officers, but the tribunal maintained the decisions of the ROs.

The tribunal also dismissed appeals of another PTI leader, Hammad Azhar, against rejection of his nomination papers. Azhar had filed papers to contest the elections for NA-129. However, nominations of Azhar and his father Mian Azhar for the provincial seat of PP 171 were accepted.

Meanwhile, Election Commission of Pakistan told Supreme Court that 76 per cent of nomination papers of PTI candidates had been accepted across the country.
