WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that a second round of negotiations with Iran could take place as early as Friday, signaling a possible continuation of diplomatic efforts following the recent ceasefire extension.

In an interview with a U.S. newspaper, President Trump said he has instructed the military to maintain the blockade and remain prepared for all possible scenarios. He added that the ceasefire would remain in place until Iran presents its proposals, describing the development as a positive step toward further negotiations.

Trump also stated on his social media platform that the decision to delay potential military action against Iran was influenced by requests from Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, to allow space for diplomacy and dialogue.

He emphasized that the ceasefire extension would continue until meaningful progress is achieved through negotiations, while U.S. forces remain on high alert and the blockade stays in effect.

Meanwhile, a senior aide to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the significance of the ceasefire extension, stating that the losing side cannot dictate terms. The aide warned that the continuation of the blockade is equivalent to ongoing aggression and should be met with a military response.

Ghalibaf also suggested that the U.S. move to extend the ceasefire could be a tactic to gain time for a potential surprise action, urging Iran to take necessary steps and move forward with its own strategy.
