KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday directed the government to submit detailed reports about missing persons within a week.
Hearing different petitions filed by relatives of missing persons, the high court directed the government to collect details from all detention centres across the country and submit a report about the missing persons.
A counsel for the government informed the High Court that the families of some missing persons had been paid monetary compensation by the government as there was no clue to their whereabouts.
An investigation officer told the court that a joint investigation report had confirmed that a citizen identified as Adil Khan, resident of Nazimabad, had gone missing and the Sindh government had paid compensation to his family.
Thousands of people have gone missing from different parts of the country since the war on terror started over two decades ago. Despite court cases and protest demonstrations by the affected families there has been no progress on the issue.
Even a commission was formed by the federal government but it also failed to provide relief to the relatives of the missing persons.
