NEW DELHI: Thousands of factory workers staged protests in Noida, India, demanding wage increases, with demonstrations turning violent and leading to clashes and property damage.

According to local media reports, the protests escalated as workers took to the streets, setting multiple vehicles on fire and engaging in unrest. The demonstrations were driven by growing frustration over low wages and economic pressures faced by laborers.

Political reactions quickly followed, with opposition leaders criticizing the government’s economic approach. Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, blamed the unrest on policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party government, stating that workers are being deprived of fair wages due to unchecked influence of industrialists.

Similarly, Ajay Rai of the Congress party said that economic hardships cannot be addressed through rhetoric alone, urging authorities to respond to workers’ legitimate demands.

Analysts note that rising living costs and stagnant wages have intensified pressure on laborers, leading to increased unrest in industrial areas. The situation in Noida reflects broader economic concerns among working-class communities, as protests continue to emerge in response to financial strain.

Authorities have yet to provide a detailed response, while security forces remain on alert to prevent further escalation.
