WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance has said that the United States and Iran are very close to reaching an agreement, although no deal has yet been finalized to extend the current ceasefire.

In a statement, Vance said that President Donald Trump is not yet ready to approve the agreement, adding that it is unclear when he might sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran.

He noted that significant progress has been made in talks regarding a ceasefire extension, and that Iran is willing to reach an agreement with the United States. According to him, discussions are ongoing on a few remaining points.

Vance further stated that the United States is in a position to push back Iran’s nuclear program if necessary.

Earlier, a US-based news outlet had claimed that both countries were close to finalizing a deal on extending the ceasefire, but no official confirmation has been made so far.
