WASHINGTON: The United States has announced plans to gradually dismantle the International Criminal Court (ICC), with Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying Washington will work with its allies to weaken the court.
Rubio said the US would use all available resources and coordinate with partner countries to pursue the effort, adding that “aggressive governments and NGOs” would not be allowed to override the US Constitution and judicial system.
The announcement comes after the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the conflict in Gaza.
The United States has long opposed the ICC’s jurisdiction over its citizens and has also criticized the court’s actions against Israeli officials.
