WASHINGTON: The United States has announced a new round of sanctions targeting individuals and entities linked to the Lebanese group Hezbollah, intensifying pressure on the Iran-backed organisation’s financial and political networks.

According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctions target people and companies accused of helping raise funds and facilitate financial support for Hezbollah through a network operating across Lebanon and other countries.

The Treasury said the measures are aimed at disrupting the group’s revenue streams and limiting its influence.

Among those sanctioned are Mahmoud Qamati, a senior Hezbollah political figure, and Suleiman Frangieh, leader of the Marada Movement. US authorities accused them of supporting Hezbollah’s political and financial activities.

The Treasury Department said all assets and property interests of the designated individuals and entities under US jurisdiction will be blocked. It also warned that individuals or organisations engaging in transactions with sanctioned parties could face legal and financial penalties.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Hezbollah’s disarmament was essential for Lebanon’s stability and pledged continued action against networks that enable the group to operate and raise funds.

The latest sanctions come amid ongoing US efforts to curb Hezbollah’s regional influence and financial operations.
