US concerned over closure of social media in Pakistan

Spokesperson says America ready to work with coalition govt in Islamabad.

WASHINGTON: The United States of America has expressed concerns about the closure of social media platforms in Pakistan.

State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller at a media briefing here said that closure of social media networking platform of X and other sites in Pakistan was against freedom of expression. 

He said the US had conveyed its concerns to the authorities in Pakistan with the demand to ensure citizens’ access to all social media platforms without any hindrances 

The spokesperson also said that the US was ready to work with the coalition government in Pakistan. The formation of a coalition government was an internal matter of Pakistan, he added.

It may be noted that the social networking forum of X has been blocked in Pakistan for a week or so and even a direction issued by the Sindh High Court it is not available to millions in of user in the country.

Many users however continue accessing X by using VPN.
