WASHINGTON: The United States Central Command has confirmed that US forces carried out strikes on Iranian military installations in the city of Gurek and on Qeshm Island, targeting radar systems and drone command-and-control centers.
According to a statement released on the social media platform X, the US military said the operation was conducted in response to what it described as escalating Iranian aggression, including the reported downing of a US MQ-1 drone in international airspace.
Officials stated that American warplanes entered Iranian territory and hit strategically significant locations linked to Iran’s air defense and drone operations.
CENTCOM claimed that during the strikes, Iranian air defense systems were destroyed along with a key ground control station used for drone operations. Additionally, two Iranian one-way attack drones were intercepted and neutralized in the air, which the US said posed a serious threat to maritime traffic in the region.
The US military emphasized that it retains the right to defend its assets and interests, warning that any further targeting of American forces would prompt continued defensive action.
