WASHINGTON: A resolution has been introduced in the United States House of Representatives commending Pakistan for its diplomatic efforts and mediation role during the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
The resolution was presented by Congressman Al Green, who described Pakistan as a “neutral and credible mediator.” It acknowledges Islamabad’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue during a highly destructive conflict.
According to the text, Pakistan played a key role in reducing human and financial losses by hosting diplomatic engagements and supporting negotiations. It also noted that Pakistan faced logistical challenges, including temporary restrictions in major cities, to accommodate visiting delegations.
The resolution emphasized that while progress has been made, significant efforts are still required to ensure a lasting peace. It credited Pakistan with enabling meaningful and constructive talks between the involved parties.
Citing international data, the resolution highlighted the severe impact of the conflict, including thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 3.2 million people, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
It further noted that the war has resulted in substantial financial costs, estimated at nearly $1 billion per day, while also disrupting global energy and fuel supplies.
The resolution concluded that ending the conflict would benefit not only the involved parties but also the broader Middle East and the international community.
