ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has warned that the next phase of negotiations between the United States and Iran will be “more difficult and complex,” despite both sides acknowledging diplomacy as the only viable path forward.

In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Dar said the ongoing dialogue between Washington and Tehran had helped reduce immediate fears of a full-scale conflict, which he described as potentially “devastating” for the global economy.

He revealed that three technical teams are currently engaged in backchannel diplomacy, working on key issues including Iran’s uranium enrichment levels, the possible release of frozen Iranian assets, and broader regional stability—particularly the situation in Lebanon.

Dar noted that initial understandings have been reached on reducing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile to minimal levels, while discussions continue on mechanisms for easing financial restrictions and supporting economic recovery efforts.

Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic role, Dar said Islamabad, in coordination with international partners, had contributed to facilitating dialogue between the two sides. He expressed cautious optimism that, despite challenges ahead, the negotiations could progress in a positive direction.

“The path forward will not be easy,” he said, “but sustained diplomacy remains essential for regional and global peace.”
