WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the end of the American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, allowing commercial vessels to resume transit through the critical shipping route.
Speaking on the development, Trump said ships that had been halted due to the blockade would now be able to pass freely. He emphasized that Iran must agree never to pursue nuclear weapons as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.
The U.S. president also claimed that Iran’s nuclear materials are buried deep beneath mountainous terrain following previous strikes, and said the United States possesses the capability to extract and neutralize them. He added that such operations could be carried out in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Trump further stated that discussions and decisions on the matter were ongoing, with a high-level meeting being held in the Situation Room to determine the next steps.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions and continued negotiations between the United States and Iran over security, nuclear activity, and maritime access in the region.
