JHELUM: A protective embankment along Banhan Nullah in Jhelum has breached, sending floodwaters toward nearby villages and raising concerns among local residents.
According to local reports, the breach has allowed floodwater to flow into surrounding rural areas. Residents recalled that the same embankment collapsed at the same location last year, inundating a large area.
The embankment was reportedly constructed by local residents themselves. Following last year’s flooding, residents had urged the government to rebuild and reinforce the structure. However, they claim that despite the passage of a year, no permanent repairs or reconstruction work was carried out.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest breach or any emergency response measures.
