BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned that the world is increasingly at risk of sliding back into a “jungle law” system, where powerful states impose their will through force rather than international rules.

The remarks came during a high-level meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both leaders discussed deepening bilateral ties and expanding strategic cooperation amid rising global tensions.

Xi Jinping said the current international environment is becoming more volatile, with increasing geopolitical competition and conflict, cautioning that global governance risks being dominated once again by power politics instead of fairness and multilateral cooperation.

He stressed that China and Russia share strong political trust and strategic alignment, which he described as the foundation of their growing partnership. According to Xi, both countries must work together to promote a more balanced and equitable global governance system.

President Vladimir Putin, in response, said that Russia–China relations have reached an “unprecedented level” and continue to strengthen in areas including trade, energy, and diplomatic coordination. He added that both nations should further enhance cooperation to support stability and development.

Putin also highlighted Russia’s role as a reliable energy partner for China and said the two countries are contributing to maintaining global stability and strategic balance.

During the meeting, Putin invited Xi Jinping to pay an official visit to Russia next year, further signaling continued high-level engagement between the two countries.

The meeting took place at a time of heightened global uncertainty, with ongoing tensions involving major powers and conflicts in regions such as the Middle East and Ukraine continuing to shape the international landscape.
