ISLAMABAD: Following the devastating 2022 floods in Pakistan, the World Bank has released $1.276 billion from the previously announced $2 billion package for flood response and reconstruction, with the largest portion allocated to rebuilding projects in Sindh province.
According to official documents, the World Bank funds were earmarked for emergency response, reconstruction, and climate resilience initiatives.
Pakistan received $277 million as emergency cash transfers. Sindh province was allocated $451 million for the Flood Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project and $515 million for the Sindh Flood Emergency Recovery Project. An additional $600 million has been approved for these two projects in 2024–25, of which $130 million has already been disbursed.
The World Bank also provided over $60 million to Pakistan for the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project and announced $177 million in funding for new programs aimed at strengthening climate resilience and disaster preparedness.
These funds are expected to play a crucial role in Pakistan’s ongoing recovery from the 2022 floods and in building long-term resilience against future climate-related disasters.
