14 Killed as Van Falls Into Canal Due to Fog in Sargodha

SARGODHA: As many as 14 people list their lives and nine others were injured when a Mazda van plunged into a canal due to dense fog near Kot Momin in Sargodha on Saturday morning.

According to rescue officials, the victims all belonged to the same family and were traveling from Islamabad to Faisalabad to attend a funeral when the accident happened. Poor visibility caused by heavy fog reportedly led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Rescue sources said that several of the injured are in critical condition and have been shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Most of the fatalities occurred after the van came under a truck, worsening the impact of the crash.

Emergency teams reached the scene promptly and carried out rescue operations, retrieving bodies and injured passengers from the canal. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution during foggy conditions, as such accidents are becoming increasingly frequent in Punjab during winter.
