ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani embassy in Beirut has evacuated 170 Pakistanis who were working on the construction project of the United States Embassy.
The were relocated to a safe location due to the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon.
According to Tahir Andrabi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the evacuation operation was carried out with cooperation from the company responsible for the construction project.
He stated that the move was taken to ensure the safety of Pakistani nationals amid escalating tensions in that country. He said that the welfare and protection of overseas Pakistanis abroad remain a top priority, and assistance will continue to be provided whenever necessary.
Media reports indicated that tensions in Lebanon intensified after Israel launched heavy missile strikes on Lebanese territory. The attacks are reportedly linked to the ongoing conflict that began following strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The war in Iran has now entered its second week, with hundreds of casualties reported so far. The situation has also affected the global economy, as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted international oil shipments and trade routes.
