EDIRNE: Turkish authorities have arrested 18 Afghan migrants in the province of Edirne, who were attempting to illegally enter Europe.
According to the Turkish news agency, the arrested migrants include women and children, and they have been transferred to relevant centers for deportation proceedings.
The Turkish border forces stated that the arrests took place during an operation aimed at preventing individuals from entering European countries illegally via land routes. Edirne is considered an important corridor for migrants attempting to reach Europe, with thousands of people attempting to pass through each year.
According to the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management, over 152,000 illegal migrants were detained across the country last year, including more than 42,000 Afghan nationals. In response to the rising number of illegal migrants, Turkey has strengthened its border control and surveillance measures to prevent unauthorized migration to Europe.
The increasing number of illegal migrants has posed challenges for Turkish authorities, leading to heightened security and stricter measures to control border crossings.
