18th anniversary of 2005 earthquake observed

MUZAFFARABAD: 18 years ago today, a powerful earthquake rattled Azad Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing thousands of people and bringing destruction to properties worth billions of rupees.

Since then, Pakistan and the international community have been working to rehabilitate the affected people and rebuild the infrastructure. But the memory of losing loved ones is still fresh in the minds of those who survived the mayhem.

On October 8, 2023, the natural disaster’s 18th anniversary was observed in Azad Kashmir  with the day starting with special prayers in mosques for the martyrs’ souls and for the prosperity and development of Pakistan and the liberation of the Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir.

Following blowing siren, a one-minute silence was observed at all district headquarters at 08:52am to pay respect to the martyrs. Quran Khwani, prayer ceremonies, documentary shows depicting events of miseries, pictorial exhibitions, awareness walks, candle vigils, seminars and speech contests were held in all ten districts of the state.
