KARACHI: As many as 22 Indian fishermen, who were kept in the Landhi jail of Karachi were released on Friday morning to be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border in Lahore.
According to a spokesperson for Edhi Foundation, the Indian fishermen were to be released from the Malir Landhi District Jail and handed over to the Edhi Foundation. The foundation has made arrangements for transporting the fisherman to Lahore by bus. Edhi Foundation Faisal Edhi will take the Indians to Lahore.
According to jail officials, orders had been received from the Sindh Home Department in this regard.
The Edhi Foundation will bear the cost of transporting the fishermen from Karachi to the Wagah border in Lahore.
The fishermen will be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border.
The fishermen were arrested by Pakistani authorities on charges of illegally fishing in Pakistani waters during the past many months.
