ISLAMABAD: Law minister Azam Nazir Tarar on Tuesday reacted to the UN working group’s report and said Imran Khan’s arrest was Pakistan’s internal matter.

He said that like other independent states, the constitution and laws are implemented in Pakistan through the judiciary. He said the former prime minister has been sentenced by courts and was in jail. He is being provided all the permissible facilities in accordance with the law, he added.

The UN human rights working group in its report earlier today said former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s detention is arbitrary and in violation of international law, a U.N. human rights working group said in an opinion issued on Monday, adding the jailed politician should be released immediately.

The Geneva-based U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention said that the “appropriate remedy would be to release Mr. Khan immediately and accord him an enforceable right to compensation and other reparations, in accordance with international law.”
