GOA (INDIA): A massive fire at a well-known nightclub in the Indian coastal state of Goa claimed the lives of at least 23 people late Saturday night, officials confirmed.
Most of the victims are believed to be employees of the nightclub.
According to news agencies, the blaze erupted around 12 a.m. in the club’s kitchen area after a powerful gas cylinder explosion. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing the entire building within minutes and turning it into a “ball of flames,” police said.
Rescue teams struggled for hours to retrieve all the bodies due to the intensity of the fire. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the death toll in a post on X and announced a high-level inquiry into the incident, assuring that those responsible would not be spared.
The tragedy occurred in Arpora, a popular area in North Goa known for its luxury nightlife, beaches, and heavy influx of foreign tourists. December is considered the peak tourist season in Goa, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
Authorities are continuing investigations while families and officials mourn one of the deadliest fire incidents to hit the region in recent years.
