40 killed in firing on passenger vehicles in Kurram
PESHAWAR: About 40 people were killed and scores of others injured when armed persons opened fire on passenger vehicles in the tribal districts of Kurram in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, local authorities said on Thursday.
Due to tribal clashes and attacks on vehicles on the road between Kurram and Peshawar, buses and other vehicles are operated in groups.
The authorities said that armed people targetted the vehicles on the highway at Ochat area on Thursday, leaving about 40 dead and scores of other people injured.
After the carnage, police and other law enforcement agencies personnel reached the area and started a hunt for the attackers. Rescue officials shifted the dead and injured to hospitals.
President Asif Ali Zardari in a statement condemned the incident and ordered immediate arrest of the culprits.
