RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced 47 accused to 10 years in prison each for their involvement in the May 9 attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ).

Judge Amjad Ali Shah also imposed fines of Rs. 500,000 on each and ordered the confiscation of the convicts’ properties.

Notable figures among those sentenced include Omar Ayub, Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, and Rasheed Shafiq. Others include Shehbaz Gill, Zulfi Bukhari, Muhammad Ahmed Chatha, and Rai Hassan Nawaz.

The court stated that the convicts were involved in violent attacks on GHQ Gate, Hamza Camp, and the Army Museum, planning large-scale protests, vandalism, and assaults on police and government property. According to the JIT report, they were central figures in organizing these violent activities.

Out of 118 accused originally charged in December 2024, 18 were repeatedly absent during the trial, while 29 never appeared in court. A separate trial was conducted for the 47 fugitives, following a prosecution request on January 6, 2026. Notices were issued for their surrender within seven days, but none complied.

After recording statements of 19 witnesses and cross-examination by the state counsel, the court finalized the sentences of 10 years imprisonment, fines, and property confiscation for all 47 fugitives.

The case was initially registered at R.A. Bazaar Police Station after the May 9 GHQ attack.
