FAISALABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has claimed that 50pc senators have reached the upper house of parliament by paying for their seats.
Addressing lawyers at the Faisalabad district bar council premises, the former Prime Minister said that he was saying this with full confidence that 50% of the senators have reached the house by making payment for the seats.
He said when public mandate is stolen and people’s choice is not respected, that country can never see real democratic progress and social development. He said that we have already seen that public mandate was not respected in the former East Pakistan that led to the breakaway of half part of the country to become the separate state of Bangladesh.
I had known it very well that the elections would be stolen and that’s was the reason that I did not take part in the elections of February 2024, he added.
Judiciary has been made subservient to the executive under 26th amendment, and unless and until this law remains intact our judiciary cannot be considered as independent, said the former prime minister.
Mr Abbasi said that lawyers and bar associations in the country should raise voice for this attack and subjugation of the judiciary in order to ensure rule of law and speedy justice.
