QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has announced the arrest of 60 individuals who were attempting to cross into Iran illegally through the sea route.
The operation was carried out in Jiwani, a coastal area of Balochistan that has frequently been used by human smugglers to transport people out of the country.
An FIA spokesperson confirmed that the suspects belong to several different regions of Pakistan, including Gujranwala, Malakand, Bannu, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, and Mardan. Officials said the arrests were made after receiving intelligence reports about a group preparing to depart for Iran without valid travel documents.
The agency revealed that four separate cases have been registered against the detainees, while a detailed investigation has already begun. Authorities are working to determine whether organized trafficking groups were behind the attempt and whether more arrests are likely in the coming days.
Officials noted that human traffickers routinely lure vulnerable individuals with false promises of lucrative jobs and better living conditions abroad.
Many of those who attempt such illegal journeys face extreme risks at sea, including exploitation by traffickers, arrest by foreign authorities, and in some cases, fatal accidents during transit.
The FIA reiterated its commitment to dismantling illegal migration networks and stressed the importance of public awareness in preventing such incidents.
The agency urged citizens to avoid falling prey to human smugglers and reminded them that legal migration channels remain the only safe and reliable path for those seeking opportunities abroad.
