ISLAMABAD: The federal capital police have confirmed that 70 out of 92 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly are wanted in various criminal cases registered in Islamabad, most of them belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to police sources, cases have been registered against the lawmakers at multiple police stations in the federal capital. The charges include terrorism-related offenses, violent protests, and attacks on police and Rangers personnel.
Former KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur faces the highest number of cases. Police records show that 52 FIRs have been registered against him at 18 different police stations between 2022 and November 2024.
KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is wanted in 11 cases, including seven under the Anti-Terrorism Act, mostly related to attacks on law enforcement officials.
Police officials stated that many of the accused lawmakers have not yet obtained bail from courts. Deputy Speaker Suraiya Bibi has been booked for allegedly leading a violent protest in November 2024.
Additionally, KP Ministers Mina Afridi (Local Government and Higher Education) faces four cases registered at Golra, Aabpara, Noon, and Secretariat police stations. KP Assembly Speaker Babar Swati has also been named in a case registered at the Secretariat police station.
Police records further indicate that Faisal Turkai of Swabi has been nominated in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, while Aaqibullah, brother of former Speaker Asad Qaiser, is also facing charges in Islamabad.
