PESHAWAR: A recent audit has revealed that 80 government vehicles are missing from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Livestock Department, raising serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the department.
According to media reports, the vehicles were reportedly part of more than 200 purchased between 2007 and 2021 for various livestock projects. However, during the audit process, the department failed to provide records for 80 of these vehicles.
The Excise Department confirmed that over 80 vehicles are still officially registered under the name of the Director General of Livestock, but they are neither present in the field nor at any office location.
The audit report has recommended immediate action to trace the missing vehicles and raised questions over the department’s internal controls and governance.
Provincial Livestock Minister Fazal Hakim stated that he has issued orders for all vehicles to be accounted for. Letters have been dispatched to initiate recovery, and the Secretary of Livestock has also sent formal notices to all concerned departments.
The revelations have sparked concerns over mismanagement of public resources and demand further investigation into potential misuse or misappropriation.
